An exhibition of the renowned Kazakh artist and State Prize laureate Yerbolat Tolepbai has opened at the Vienna Kunstlerhaus on Karlsplatz. It is timed to the 20th anniversary of Astana and Vienna establishing their diplomatic relations. Eminent European art critics and artists referred to this event as a unique presentation of Kazakhstan and its original culture.

Prof. Joachim Lothar Gartner, President, Kunstlerhouse Association of Austrian Artists:
- Yerbolat Tolepbai’s works remarkably show how traditions convey the identity and personal perception of Kazakh people in the modern form. The theme, which is centered on people - their life and leisure - is one of the directions in visual arts, which can rarely be found in Central Europe today.

The Kazakh artist’s exhibition has already caused a lot of discussions in expert circles. Roger Taillibert, the President of French Academy of Fine Arts,
who came from Paris especially to see the Kazakh artist’s exhibition, said that Yerbolat Tolepbai’s works represents art of the highest level.

According to Roger Taillibert, the quality of Tolepbai’s art works has historical significance since they are as impressive as paintings of the 19th century by Monet, Cezanne, and others. He added that Yerbolat Tolepbai is a man of the future and culture.

The artist himself said that he is inspired when being around people and portrays everything happening around him. However, this is not just a mirror image of reality as the artist interprets a specific situation through his heart.

- It is no accident that I called the exhibition «Mismatch». In my opinion, many things do not reflect reality. We admit it, we are aware of it, but we don’t talk about it. But the artist conveys what is actually happening in the world and the things around them.
