Currently the Almaty region is witnessing the filming of Atazhurt – the Land of the People film. The film tells the story about hard times, when Kazakhstan welcomed a lot of deportees. The Land of People film is being shot at the Kazakhsfilm studio. The film is full of characters, which are based on real people such as the designer Mikhail Kalashnikov, Boris Raushenbakh who created “Katyusha” and the dancer Makhmud Isambayev. The main hero of the film is Aksakal Orynbai, who is helping people to the injury of himself, is played by Bolat Abdilmanov. The actor said that although it was very difficult role it helped him to reach completely new levels of acting skills.

“Such people lived in every village and this character represents the whole nation. He is very trusting, loves everyone and worries about every nation.”

The screenplay writer Lavrentiy Son said that it is autobiographical film, which tells about his childhood and his parents. The second name of the playwright is Karatal. When he was small, he was very ill and Orynbai gives him this name and wished him to live a long life. Elders were teaching children to honour the land, which accommodated thousands of families and Lavrentiy still remembers the behest of his parents.

“They said that they can forgive us everything but they will curse us if we forgot the water, which was given by Orynbai, since we survived due to him. After the film is finished I will do my duty.”

It is planned to finish filming by the end of spring and it will be released in 2011 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Independence of Kazakhstan.
