Astana and Minsk have approved the Road Map project, a joint action plan of trade and economic cooperation for Kazakhstan and Belarus for the next two years. This document is one of the most important results of the talks between Nursultan Nazarbayev and Alexander Lukashenko. An estimated 3 billion US dollars will be invested in Kazakhstan and its harvester and tipper lorry production.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- The plan for the industrial and innovative development of Kazakhstan, which was elaborated until 2010, is a unique element of our cooperation, which does not have any peers in the interaction with other countries.
Regarding the outcome of the bilateral talks in Minsk, Nursultan Nazarbayev and Alexander Lukashenko inked a total of 7 documents including a joint statement of the two presidents, agreements on cooperation in the sphere of healthcare, production and scientific and technical cooperation as well as the financial sector. Moreover, the two countries have arranged closer relations between the Aktobe region in Kazakhstan and the Grodno county of Belarus as well as the East Kazakhstan region and the Mogilev county in Belarus. Over the past 9 years, Kazakhstan-Belarus trade turnover has increased 13 times to exceed 1.5 billion US dollars. This year, the volume of bilateral trade has reduced due to the global economic crisis. However, experts say that the situation is to change for the better after the official visit by Nursultan Nazarbayev to the city of Minsk.
Yevgeniy Babosov, academic, Belarusian National Academy of Sciences:
- Nursultan Nazarbayev has a wonderfully sensitive intuition and logic which helps him understand what the general public wants.
Alexander Tsyganov, Deputy Presidium Chairman, Belarusian National Academy of Sciences:
- Speaking about the personality of your President Nursultan Nazarbayev, I can say that he is an outstanding person who is valued in Kazakhstan, Belarus and the whole world. He is an active person. He is the one who promotes peaceful policies and the policy which is to integrate former Soviet Union republics. His policy is also aimed at the innovative development of Kazakhstan and its cooperation with various organisations.
Alexander Anisimov, head conductor, Belarusian State Academic Symphony Orchestra:
- I imagine this person as an unusual figure but creative and accessible to the general public at the same time. I know that people of different nationalities live and work in Kazakhstan. a good example is an ethnic Russian who is the ambassador of Kazakhstan to Belarus. This example demonstrates the inter-ethnic diversity of this country and that people respect all nations and religions there. I think this country deserves a lot of respect.
Nina Ivanova, chairperson, Belarusian Association of Friendship and Cultural Affairs with Foreign Countries:
- Your country may be proud of your people and your national leader, your president who always cares about his nation and it can be seen in his domestic and foreign policies and in the resolution of social issues.
